Ingredients

Soap Kitchen Wanaka prides itself on sourcing ingredients that are kind to both you and the environment.  Some come in barrels, some come from our organic garden, some are quintessentially kiwi and some come from further afield.  All we think are the best for their purpose without causing harm.  All are approved for use in eco friendly products.

Coconut oil

Lye

CSPO* Palmolein

Castor oil

Cocoa butter

*CSPO

Certified sustainable palm oil.

The Roundtable for  sustainable palm oil is a not-for-profit that unites stakeholders from the 7 sectors of the palm oil industry: oil palm producers, processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks/investors, and environmental and social non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.

The RSPO has developed a set of environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO). When they are properly applied, these criteria can help to minimize the negative impact of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities in palm oil-producing regions.

The RSPO has more than 3,000 members worldwide who represent all links along the palm oil supply chain. They have committed to produce, source and/or use sustainable palm oil certified by the RSPO.

Solid shampoo and conditioner

It isn't possible to make soap that acts as shampoo,  because the pH of soap is slightly alkali, and hair needs products that are slightly acidic.  Washing your hair which is naturally negatively charged with an alkali and therefore also negatively charged product will result in the cuticles of the hair strand standing up instead of lying flat.  End result - dry, dull, frizzy!!   So the solid shampoos and conditioners are made with plant derived detergents.  All the shampoo and conditioner ingredients are plant based and approved for use in eco friendly products.

Shampoo ingredients

SCI

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, is an extremely gentle surfactant based on coconut fatty acids.  Mild enough for baby cleansers, personal hygiene, and toiletries while still offering very efficient cleansing and low odor.

Decyl Glucoside

Is a natural, non-ionic surfactant, obtained from renewable raw materials through a combination of plant based fatty alcohols and glucose, which is ideal for all foaming and cleansing products.  It is a mild, and gentle surfactant and because it does not dry the skin it is ideal for the formulation of personal hygiene and toiletry products.

Coco Glucoside

Coco Glucoside is also a natural, non-ionic, surfactant made of plant based fatty acids and glucose.  Like Decyl Glucoside it is ultra mild, and one of the most gentle of the cleansing agents, making it ideal for all foaming and cleansing products, especially those designed for fragile or sensitive skin.  It also does not dry the skin.

BTMS25

Is a blend of  25% Behentrimonium methosulphate and cetearyl alcohol, which is a conditioning agent and emulsifier.  It is derived from vegetable oils such as canola, rapeseed, coconut or sunflower.  Not to be confused with other 'nasty' sulfates like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.  Mild on skin and hair.

A plant derived ester of coconut alcohol, caprylic acid and capric acid (all naturally derived ingredients). It is used as a natural emollient (moisturiser).

The alcohol analog of vitamin B5, also called pro-vitamin B5.  Attracts moisture and adds shine to hair.

Essential oil

Tumeric

Geogard 221/Microcare DB

Conditioner Ingredients

BTMS50
